Supporting Underprivileged Kids Through Initiatives
“Thank you to the Carl Angus DeSantis Foundation, which made a generous contribution to the Delray Citizens for Delray Police Kids & Cops program and recognized the hard work of DBPD Sgt. Danny Pacheco. Three years ago, Sgt. Pacheco founded a youth soccer team in Delray Beach for underprivileged kids. Since then, Sgt. Pacheco and his fellow coach, DBPD Officer Mark Lucas, have assisted 45 Delray Kicks players from ages 7 to 17, with everything from soccer skills to homework to applying to colleges. As part of the Kids & Cops program, the team has visited museums and enjoyed a host of other field trips. “It’s a chance for them to come play in a safe environment and interact with police officers in a positive way,” Pacheco said regarding the kids who make up the Delray Kicks Soccer team. Recently, Pacheco was able to supply eight Delray Kicks players with bicycles that were donated by police department employees.
